De Sarphati BSO
Overlooking the most wonderful neighbours you can imagine, the animals of Artis, is the monumental former Oranje-Nassau Barracks De Sarphati: a spacious, surprising extracurricular shelter. Besides the cozy kitchen where children and parents can have a drink, there is much more to do at the BSO.
In the sports area the children can play football, boxing and exercise and in the chill corner they can relax or retreat to, for example, read a book or do homework.
Learning to glue a band, making a wooden puzzle, building birdhouses, painting, modelling: just think of it and the BSO staff will do it with the children. The craft and carpentry yard is the place where children can carpenter in the walls and paint on the floor. The aprons are ready: really nothing is too crazy here!

Discovering Amsterdam every day is central at De Sarphati; children at this BSO discover Amsterdam in their own way together with their peers. How can they do it? Throughout the year we work with themes and activities are linked to this, in cooperation with the children. Activities outside the branch, where we go out with the Stint (the electric handcart) and activities that take place at the branch. Children are allowed to indicate which activity they will participate in. Of course the activities are taken into account, they are suitable for various age categories (between 4 – 12 years).
